How to Correct a Mistake on Your Wedding Invitations

June 15th, 2011

It happens to the best of us. You work hard to write a perfectly worded wedding invitation to send to all your guests and you proofread it a hundred times over. But even with all the hard work, there is always a small chance that your mother’s name could be misspelled or there could be a typo in the reception hall’s address. If you find a mistake in your invitations before you send them out, call your invitation printer immediately. Most of the time they will provide you a discount on your reprint, and the mistake can be taken care of as soon as possible.

If you notice a mistake after you have sent them to your guests, you have a few options:

  • If the typo is a spelling error in a name, you do not need to get in contact your guests because this information is not vital for them to find your location.
  • If the typo is in the name of a location or address, we recommend sending an Addendum Card. At 1st Class Wedding Invitations, you can order a Response Card and change text to explain the situation.
  • If you do not want to order an additional card, reach out to your guests individually through phone calls and emails. You can be sure to clarify the situation to make sure everyone is on the same page.(It might also give you a chance to check on guest’s RSVP status).

While it is rare, typos sometimes do occur on wedding invitations, but do not panic because you have options. Whether it be a reprint, Addendum Card, or a plain old fashioned phone call, guests will not miss your big day!

Twilight Wedding Invitation

June 8th, 2011

If you watched the MTV Movie Awards this past Sunday night, you saw the sneak preview of the next Twilight movie Breaking Dawn Part 1. If you watched closely, you saw the wedding invitation for Bella and Edward. If you missed it, here is a glimpse of what it looks like:

They used a traditional invitation with a bit of a Gothic twist. We would love to help you recreate the look for your wedding day! Here are some of our suggestions:

W910

This card matches the simplicity of Bella and Edward’s invitation, but the silver ivy border gives it a much needed old world feel.

W256

The deckle edge of this invitation is the same one used on the Twilight invitation. You could use a script font to make the invite a bit more feminine or opt for all capital letters in print like Bella and Edward.

W9808

If you don’t want your invitation to look exactly alike, but want it to keep the Gothic element, try this Ebony and Platinum Filigree style. It gives a bit of a modern twist to the classical style.

We have a feeling Bella and Edward’s wedding will inspire brides all over the world. Do you think you will incorporate some of the style elements into your wedding?

Love is in Bloom

June 2nd, 2011

We can’t believe we have already reached June! 2011 is flying by! As we kick off one of the biggest wedding seasons of the year, we wanted to feature some of our favorite floral invitations to help inspire you in your planning process.

Watercolor flowers cascade down the left side of the invitation adding beautiful detail. Both floral patterns and watercolor motifs are both on trend, making this a great option for your upcoming wedding.

W909

If you want a bit of a more abstract floral pattern, look for monochromatic stems in a variety of complementary colors. We like this example below because it layers leaf stems, making an interesting visual.

W9843

Don’t be afraid to mix motifs in your wedding stationery. One pairing that goes well is nature and animals. We love the look of a bird nestled in the flowers.

Finding Your “Something Borrowed”

May 6th, 2011

We previously wrote about how to find the “Something Old” for your wedding and in honor of the new movie coming out today, we want to discuss your “Something Borrowed.”

The borrowed item in a wedding represents the support the couple’s family and friends will give in the future when needed. The tradition originally was  to borrow an item from a happily married woman to pass the positive marriage karma onto the new couple, but now it can be a borrowed item from anyone close to you. We love the idea of best friends sharing wedding jewelry or hair pieces.

The only caveat to the “Something Borrowed” tradition is that you must be willing to return the item after the wedding day!

Finding Your “Something Old”

April 12th, 2011

You have heard the tradition of the bride wearing something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue on wedding day. This English tradition began in the Victorian era and was originally started as a good luck poem for the bride in her marriage. The “something old” was used to symbolize continuity with the bride’s past.

We love this tradition because of the sweet sentimentality behind the idea. While you may be moving forward in a new marriage, you will always be connected to your past and family. Here are some of our favorite ideas for you to use for your “something old.”

  • A Vintage Handkerchief- Seek out family members to see if they own a delicate handkerchief  for you to carry down the aisle, perhaps wrapped around the base of your bouquet. It could come in handy in case you shed a few tears.
  • Heirloom Jewelry- Vintage pins, rings, necklaces, or bracelets are a perfect way to incorporate your something old into your wedding attire.
  • Garter- Vintage garters may not show, but it is a great way to incorporate the tradition in a more discreet way.
  • Wedding Dress- While most of the time this is the bride’s something new,  but there are lots of websites selling restored wedding dresses. A restored wedding dress adds a bit of history to your big day!

What will you use are your something old?

Trend Report: Art Deco

April 7th, 2011

Art deco is comprised of modern geometric shapes influenced by different parts of the world. It has an opulent style that has been around since the early 1900s, and we love the way the look has translated into wedding invitations.

Want to take part in this trend? We recommend checking out W9480 for a pocket invitation with fleur-de-lis along with contrasting teal and black accents. Would you consider using the art deco theme for your wedding?

Wedding Invite FAQ

March 29th, 2011

One of our favorite things about working with invitations is the opportunity to talk to couples about how to perfect the details of their wedding stationery. We will be sharing some of our top FAQs with you in hopes it will help you as you order your wedding invitations.

Other than friends, the groom’s family and my family, who should receive wedding invitations?

Send invitations to the members of the wedding party and their parents. It is also appropriate to include the officiant and his/her spouse. All children over the age of sixteen should receive their own invitation. Plan to order an additional twenty-five invitations to allow for the unexpected. It is less expensive to buy extras now.

The wedding and the reception are at the same location, do I have to order a reception card?

No, all you need to do is include a line on the invitation saying “Reception immediately following” You may choose to include a room if the reception is in a different room then the ceremony. “Reception immediately following in the ball room”

Our ceremony begins at 4:30 in the afternoon, how do I state this on the invitations?

There are two different ways to write the time when it is not on the hour. The first is “half past four o’clock in the afternoon”. The second which is less formal is “four-thirty in the afternoon”.

Should I have a return address printed on the back flap of the invitation’s outer envelope?

Yes! The U.S. Postal Service suggests that all first-class mail have a return address. It gives the wedding guest an address to which to send a reply (if you don’t use reply cards) or a gift. Also, it ensures that you will know if the invitation does not reach its destination as it will be returned to the sender.

Is it acceptable to send gift registry cards with the invitation?

It is not proper to include with your wedding invitation any card that mentions gifts you expect to receive. Let friends and family spread the word on where you are registered.

If you have any specific questions for us, post them in the comments, and we will answer them in our next FAQ post!
